What will the BusConnects changes mean for Dún Laoghaire?
The BusConnects E-Spine routes are due to launch in January 2025.
More information on the impact for existing bus routes (4, 46A, 46E, 63, 63A, 84, 84X, 143, 144, 145 & 145) in the Dún Laoghaire constituency below.
What bus routes are not changing?
The new E-spine routes will NOT impact the following existing bus routes

7 (City Centre to Bride’s Glen), 7A (Loughlinstown), 7B (Shankill), 7D/E (Dalkey) or 7N (Nitelink to Shankill)

45A (Dun Laoghaire via Sallynoggin, Ballybrack, Shankill, Bray to Kilmacanogue

47 (Belarmine via Stepaside, Sandyford, Stillorgan to Poolbeg St)

59 (Dun Laoghaire via Glasthule and Dalkey to Killiney)

111 (Brides’ Glen via Loughlinstown, Sallynoggin, Dun Laoghaire to Dalkey)

114 (Blackrock via Newtown Park Ave, Sandyford to Ticknock)

118 (Kilternan via Stepaside, Leopardstown to Eden Quay)

Local Route L25 (Dundrum via Stillorgan to Dun Laoghaire)

Southern Orbital Route S6 (Blackrock via UCD, Nutgrove to Tallaght)

Southern Orbital Route S8 (Dun Laoghaire via Monkstown, Sandyford to Citywest)
What bus routes are changing?
Bus Route 4 (Monkstown to IKEA) will follow its existing route from Monkstown via Blackrock towards the city centre. At O’Connell Bridge, it will divert towards Heuston Station.
If going to Ballymun/IKEA, you will need to transfer to the new BusConnects Route E2.
BusConnects Spine Route E1 will replace the 143, 144, 145, 155 routes

Routes 145 & 155 will be replaced by E1 and will be a 24-hr service. It will run on same route from Bray to the city centre

From the city centre Bus E1 will travel north to DCU and Northwood (Santry)

In order to reach Heuston Station, transfer from E1 to Route 4 at O’Connell Bridge.

The part-time Finnegan Bus Routes 143 & 144 from Bray via Shankill, Cabinteely & Foxrock to Sandyford will no longer operate

Bus frequencies will change, and a nighttime service will be added

New weekday E1 bus frequency:

Bus every 8 min from 7-9am and 4-7pm

Bus every 10 min from 6-7am, 9am-3pm and 7-11pm

Bus every 20 min from 11pm-midnight

Bus every hour from midnight-6am

BusConnects Spine Route E2 will replaces the 46A, 46E
-
Route 46A will be renamed as E2 and it will be a 24-hr service and will run on same route from Dún Laoghaire to the city centre

Beyond the city centre Bus E2 will travel north to DCU and Ballymun (IKEA)

The part-time Route 46E from Blackrock Station via Newtown Park Ave to Mountjoy Sq will no longer operate, instead use the Dart, E-spine or Route 7.

BusConnects Local Route L26 replaces the 63, 84 & 84A routes:

Route 84 (from Blackrock to Bray/Newcastle) will be replaced by a new L26 route and it will run on revised route from Blackrock Station to Cornelscourt

Beyond Cornelscourt Bus L26 will travel onwards to Kilternan via Carrickmines Shopping Centre

Part-time Route 84A from Bray Station to St. Vincents Hospital will no longer operate - use routes 4 or 7 from Blackrock to St. Vincents Hospital

BusConnects Local Route L27 will replaces the 63 and 63A routes

Route 63 will be renamed as L27 and it will run on same route from Dún Laoghaire to Carrickmines

Beyond Carrickmines, Bus L27 will travel onwards to Leopardstown Valley (Ballyogan)

the part-time Route 63A from Dún Laoghaire to Cornelscourt & Foxrock Village to Kilternan will no longer operate

Bus frequencies will change very slightly

New weekday L27 bus frequency:

Bus every 30 min from 6am-11pm

BusConnects Express Bus Routes X1, X2 replaces 84X

A new Express Bus Route X1 will from Hawkins St to Kilcoole

Existing express Route 84X from Hawkins St to Newcastle will be replaced by X2
